Šedivý Jiří
Jiří Šedivý, M.A., Ph.D., born in 1963, from 1990 till 1993 he studied at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University, (FF UK) English, political science; 1993-94: he continued at the Department of War Studies, King's College, London (M.A. 1994), 1995-99 extramural doctoral studies at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University, Prague (Ph.D. 1999). As his father was a famous political nonconformist, historian Jaroslav Šedivý (after the Velvet Revolution ambassador to France and foreign minister, 1997-98), he had experienced before 1989 dozens of job of works, including manual ones. From 1992 he was employed at the Institute of Political Science, Faculty of Arts, Charles University; professor at the George C. Marshall European Centre for Security Studies, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, and at the same time he delivered lessons at the University of New York, Prague. Researcher and lately the director of the Prague's Institute of International Relations (ÚMV); from September 2006 till January 2007 Czech defence minister. In the year 2007, deputy vice-chairman of the Czech government for European affairs; 2007-2010 deputy NATO secretary general for defence policy and planning. Shortly a deputy minister of defence for foreign affairs, from November 15, 2010, first deputy minister of defence. Since September 1, 2012, ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to NATO.
